FEES & POLICIES

Clear information, shared with care

Talking about money can feel uncomfortable — especially when you’re already navigating stress, trauma, or uncertainty. This page exists to reduce questions, not add pressure. We believe transparency builds safety, and safety supports healing.

You’re always welcome to ask questions. Nothing here is meant to rush you or obligate you to anything.

Grounded in grace. Guided by science. Rooted in neuroscience.

Counseling Is an Investment — Not a Judgment

Counseling is an investment in your nervous system, your relationships, and your future. An investment is something you pay for upfront that yields meaningful returns over time — often in ways that ripple far beyond the therapy room.

If you’re ready to do the work at a pace that respects your system, counseling can change not only your life, but the lives of the people you love.

There is no “right” timeline, no requirement to commit long-term, and no expectation to have everything figured out before you begin.

Insurance Accepted

Health First Colorado is the name of Colorado’s Medicaid program, which works with RAEs to coordinate behavioral health services across the state.

We accept Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid) through the following Regional Accountable Entity (RAE) organizations:

  • Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP) — Region 1

  • Northeast Health Partners (NHP) — Region 2

  • Colorado Community Health Alliance (CCHA) — Region 3

  • Colorado Access — Region 4

If you have questions about eligibility, your assigned RAE, or whether a specific service is covered, we’re happy to help you check your coverage and provider participation.

If you’re unsure which region you’re in or whether your plan is accepted, we’re happy to help you sort that out.

Commercial Health Insurance Plans

We currently accept the following commercial health insurance plans:

  • Aetna

  • Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Cigna

  • Optum / UnitedHealthcare

  • Select Health

  • Select Health – Colorado

  • Quest Behavioral Health

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts

  • Oxford (Optum)

  • Oscar (Optum)

  • Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey

  • Carelon Behavioral Health

Coverage and benefits vary by plan, so we encourage checking your specific benefits. We’re always happy to help you understand what questions to ask and how to verify coverage.

We also accept private pay (self-pay) clients.

Self-Pay Rates

For clients choosing private pay, the following rates apply:

  • Initial Intake Session: $175

  • Individual Psychotherapy (53 minutes): $160

  • Couples or Family Therapy (53 minutes): $175

  • Equine-Assisted (Horse-Assisted) Therapy (53 minutes): $175

  • Non-scheduled / After-Hours / Emergency Sessions (53 minutes): $180

  • EMDR Intensives (53 minutes): $160

We will always discuss fit, pacing, and expectations before beginning any service.

Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act)

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges if you are not using insurance or if you are self-paying for services.

A Good Faith Estimate provides an overview of the anticipated cost of therapy services over time. This estimate is not a contract and does not require you to commit to a specific number of sessions.

You may request a Good Faith Estimate at any time — before starting services or during ongoing care.

If your actual charges are substantially higher than your estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill under federal law.

We are happy to walk through this with you slowly and answer any questions.

Cancellations & Scheduling

We understand that life happens — and we also honor the time set aside for your care.

  • We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling.

  • Late cancellations or missed sessions may be charged the full session fee.

If you’re feeling unwell or something unexpected arises, please reach out. We aim to hold boundaries with compassion, not rigidity.

A Gentle Reminder

You are not required to decide everything today. You are not expected to commit before you feel ready. You are always allowed to ask questions.

This page is here to support clarity — not pressure.

Next Step

If you’d like to talk through options, insurance, or what might be a good fit, we can do that together.

You don’t have to heal alone. You just have to begin.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the first session like?

Your first session is a gentle starting point, not a test and not an interrogation.

We’ll focus on:

  • What you’re hoping will be different in your life

  • What feels hard right now (only as much as you want to share)

  • What helps you feel safe and supported in therapy (pace, structure, sensory needs, communication style)

Your therapist will ask questions to guide the process, but you’re always in control. We’ll end by creating a clear, collaborative plan for next steps. Let us know how to make you more comfortable or how we can accommodate you.

It’s normal to feel nervous—especially if you’ve had past experiences where you weren’t believed, understood, or safe. Many clients report feeling real relief after the first session.

How do I schedule a session?

You can start in whatever way feels easiest:

  • Fill out the contact form on our homepage, or

  • Call or text us at 719-223-9775

A member of our team will get back to you within 24 business hours to schedule a free consultation. If it feels like a good fit on both sides, we’ll schedule your first session. You’re also welcome to go ahead and schedule a first appointment with one of our counselors.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. We offer a free 15-minute phone or video consultation so you can ask questions and get a feel for us.

Will my health insurance cover therapy?

We accept the following insurances:

  • Aetna

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Cigna

  • Oxford

  • Oscar Health

  • United Healthcare

  • Select Health

  • All Colorado Medicaid

We also accept self-pay/private pay clients. Coverage varies by plan, and we can help you understand what to expect (copays, deductibles, etc.).

How long will I be in therapy?

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. The length depends on your goals, your history, and what kind of support you want.

  • Some people come for a specific season (a few weeks or months)

  • Others choose deeper healing work and stay longer (many months or years)

We’ll check in along the way so therapy feels intentional, supportive, and worth your time.

How often should I come to counseling?

Most clients start with weekly sessions, especially at the beginning, to build trust and momentum. Some people choose more than once a week during a hard season.

As things stabilize, it’s common to shift to:

  • Every other week

  • Monthly “maintenance” sessions

  • Occasional check-ins as needed

We’ll choose a rhythm that fits your nervous system, your schedule, and your budget.

Do you do online therapy?

Yes. We offer in-person and virtual therapy using a HIPAA-compliant platform.

Virtual therapy can be a great option if you:

  • Prefer being in your own space

  • Have a busy schedule or limited transportation

  • Feel more regulated at home

We’ll help you decide what supports you best.

What if I’m neurodivergent (ADHD, autistic, sensory sensitive, etc.)?

You’re welcome here—fully.

We can adapt therapy to fit how your brain works, including:

  • More structure and clarity (or more open space—your choice)

  • Clear, direct communication and fewer “hidden expectations”

  • Sensory-friendly options (lighting, movement, fidgets, pacing)

  • Support with overwhelm, shutdown, masking fatigue, and executive functioning

You don’t have to “perform” or explain yourself perfectly to be cared for.

I have trauma. Do I have to talk about everything in detail?

No. We do not force retelling.

Trauma-informed therapy means we focus on safety, consent, pacing, and stabilization, and we only go where your system is ready to go. You can share the “headline” without the graphic details. You can also pause or change direction at any time.

What if I don’t know what to say in therapy?

That’s okay. We can start with what you notice—thoughts, feelings, body sensations, or what’s been hardest lately. Your therapist will help guide you.

What if I cry, freeze, dissociate, or go blank?

That’s a normal trauma response, not a failure. We’ll slow down, ground, and help your nervous system feel safe again.

Do you integrate Christian faith?

If you want faith integrated, we can do that with care and respect. If you don’t, we won’t force it.

How do I know if I need medication or just therapy?

If you’re unsure, we usually recommend starting with therapy for a few sessions so we can understand what you’re experiencing and what support is most helpful.

If medication might be a good fit, we can help you coordinate with trusted medication providers. Therapy and medication can be used together—or therapy may be enough on its own. We’ll collaborate with you, without pressure.

What is Experiential Therapy?

Experiential therapy is a range of approaches that go beyond talk therapy by helping you work with emotions and patterns in real time—in ways that feel more embodied, practical, and lasting.

Depending on your needs, experiential work may include:

  • Emotional processing with nervous system support

  • Skills practice for real-life situations

  • Creative or reflective exercises

  • Mind-body strategies that help you feel more grounded and present

Many clients find this helpful when they feel stuck in their head, overwhelmed, shut down, or when talk therapy alone hasn’t created the change they want.
